ADU builder in Redondo Beach, CA
Redondo Beach lots are compact and in high demand, and the beach-side neighborhoods sit in the California Coastal Zone. We plan ADUs around both, so your design works with the city’s rules from the first sketch.
Long Beach & the South Bay
Building an ADU in Redondo Beach.
What’s different about adding an ADU here, and how we plan around it.
Coastal Zone or not: it changes the path
Properties in the Coastal Zone, generally the waterfront and much of South Redondo, may need a coastal development permit in addition to the building permit, and parking and setback rules there can be stricter to protect beach access. Most of North Redondo sits outside the zone. We check your parcel first.
Tight lots, careful planning
Redondo is one of the densest cities in the South Bay. Detached ADUs here are capped at 1,000 sq ft and 16 ft (18 ft near transit), so efficient single-story layouts make the most of the space.
Local standards beyond the state minimum
Redondo has historically set tighter local design rules than state law requires, and its ordinance has been reviewed by the state and the Coastal Commission. We design to the current local code so you don’t lose time in plan check.

Redondo Beach ADU questions
Common questions in Redondo Beach.
Do I need a coastal permit for an ADU in Redondo Beach?
Only if your property is inside the Coastal Zone, mostly the waterfront and parts of South Redondo. There, a coastal development permit is typically required alongside the building permit. Outside the zone, the standard ADU permit applies.
Is parking required for an ADU in Redondo Beach?
Outside the Coastal Zone, state law waives ADU parking in many cases, such as within half a mile of transit. Inside the Coastal Zone, cities may require parking to protect beach access, so it depends on your address.
Can I build a two-story ADU in Redondo Beach?
Detached ADUs are limited to 16 ft (18 ft near transit), which generally means one story. Attached ADUs can be taller, up to 25 ft, when they connect to the main house.
